My Story

My musical journey began at the age of 5, when my father, who I can confidently attribute most of my music passion to, enrolled me in classical piano lessons with Mrs. Amy Wang in my hometown of Dayton, OH. I grew up loathing the annoying clicks of the metronome and the monotony of reading sheet music, so I quit when I was 11. However, I still loved the piano and wanted to continue playing.

In middle school, every student was required to choose an elective. We had two options: stand-up comedy or jazz band. I hated public speaking, so the choice was easy! However, because I had neglected learning to read sheet music, sight-reading was impossible. But I noticed that above those little notes, the chord “Gm7” was written. I looked it up, and from there, I dove into the wonderful world of YouTube jazz tutorials.

I have learned essentially everything I know about music from the internet. It’s a fantastic resource, and I firmly believe that you can master most skills by watching, reading, and practicing.

Currently, I study with master organist Tony Monaco, a world-renowned musician. I am working on my record, On Fire, which will be released in early 2025 with his guidance. I lead my own organ septet called “The Organic Voices.”

I have had the incredible privilege of playing with many great musicians in the Columbus area, such as Miles Franklin Smith, Isaac Bednarki, Jerrod Shackleford, Derek DiCenzo, Pete Mills, Robert Dove, George Delancey, James Gaiters, Terrance “Charles” Farmer, Andrew Theiss, Dr. Robert Brooks, Maxwell Button, and others at various venues like Ginger Rabbit, Natalie’s, Cut 132, Dick’s Den, and Adelaide’s Gin Joint, as well as multiple festivals and events, including the Columbus Oyster Festival, the Vegan Jazz & Rib Festival, Jazz on the Lincoln, and more.

Outside of music, I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in the Honors College at The Ohio State University, with minors in Business, Computer Information Systems, and Classics. I also work as a Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science and Engineering department and tutor students in a wide range of subjects.
